Dia de Muertos: A Celebration of Life

  • Resonance Collingwood 10 Greco Court Unit 10 Collingwood, ON, L9Y 4L2 Canada (map)

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

Join us to tune into the energy of this special day and connect in community with the love and wisdom of our ancestors.

This Día de los Muertos will be an honouring and celebration of life. (Please read the whole event description so you're aware of all the possibilities at play.)

Paz has organized and produced multiple events to commemorate this special date for many years, in different contexts. This time around, the event will introduce some to this Mexican tradition that has gained much attention on the planet, and will offer a unique perspective to those who already know and love this yearly ritual.

The vibe for this event will be loving, mindful, playful, intentional, co-creative and inclusive. The space will be fully decorated for the occasion. Arrive, connect with the altar, and send a message through the portal of this special day. We'll begin with a storytelling open mic to settle into the vibe of this celebration, then meditate to connect with the loving and creative energy of our amazing selves, and finally dance to integrate this whimsical experience in our bodies through a joyful live performance featuring an outstanding Latin American band playing traditional Mexican songs for the occasion. Healthy, locally-made, delicious snacks will be provided for the experience!

Get your tickets in advance — this event sells out every year. See ticket prices below: the earlier you get your ticket, the more you support us with logistics, and the lower the price.

*No one will be rejected for lack of funds — we're always open to exchanges and trades, so reach out in advance if this is your situation, at hello@resonancecollingwood.ca

Special pricing for children, yes, they are invited and welcomed to attend!

Costumes in the spirit of Día de los Muertos are encouraged. Not sure what to wear? Just wear black or white to represent the play of the two forces of light and dark, and paint your face! Try to keep it simple so it's easy to dance and groove around.

There will be an altar inspired by the traditional Mexican one, using some of its elements as well. The altar will be interactive, so you'll be able to contribute to its presence. Alongside the altar, the installation will include different activities to engage with and learn more about this special day.

*Storytelling: if you're interested in sharing a 2–5 minute story, anecdote, or anything in relation to honouring your ancestors/loved ones, working with the energy of letting go, or recognizing and shining a light on something you weren't aware of before — the possibilities are endless. We do ask that you keep to the loving, respectful energy of the event. If you have any questions, let us know. Sign up via email for storytelling early, before the slots fill up — if your sharing has a title, please include it along with the expected duration. Send your submission to hello@resonancecollingwood.ca
