Foundations of Drumming with Paz Ciuk

Foundations of Drumming

An introduction to hand drumming technique, rhythm, coordination, and musical foundations.

Designed for both complete beginners and experienced drummers, this series focuses on the core techniques and rhythmic foundations that support all drumming and music. Through hand drumming, participants develop coordination, timing, muscle memory, stamina, and control while building a stronger relationship with rhythm from the ground up.

Starting with guided exercises that activate and strengthen the supporting muscle groups used in drumming, participants will build dexterity, endurance, and proper technique while learning foundational rhythms and time signatures. The series also explores listening skills, consistency, and the ability to stay grounded and focused within layered rhythmic environments.

For newer drummers, this class offers a strong technical foundation. For more experienced players, it provides an opportunity to refine technique, unlearn limiting habits, and strengthen the fundamentals that support greater fluidity, precision, and growth over time.

Rooted in repetition, coordination, and active listening, this is a practical, hands-on approach to developing rhythm, focus, and musical confidence within a supportive group environment. As participants build comfort with foundational rhythms, the series also creates space for creative exploration and improvisation, offering opportunities to both hold the rhythm and explore their own voice within it.

Please bring a drum if you have one. A limited number of drums will be available for those who need them.

This class is ‘pay what you can’ with a suggested donation of $25
