Heart Creation

What happens when kids stop thinking about what they should make and start creating from instinct?

Heart Creation is a 8-week after-school art program led by artist Amos Marsters, built around experimentation, intuition and learning to create without judgment.

Through playful creative exercises, kids will practice getting out of their thinking minds and responding to what’s in front of them: following a colour, a shape, a feeling or an unexpected idea and letting the work evolve from there. Working with paint, charcoal, clay and new artistic mediums each week, they’ll learn techniques while experimenting with spontaneous and intuitive ways of creating. Rather than being shown exactly what the finished piece should look like, they’ll have the freedom to take what they’re learning and make it their own.

Amos encourages kids to notice their creative impulses and follow them before the voice that says “that’s weird” or “I’m not good at this” gets a chance to take over. There are no mistakes to erase and no single version of “good art” to aim for.

Each week, kids will create individual pieces of their own while also contributing to a collaborative group artwork, building confidence not only in what they can make, but in their ability to trust their own ideas.

  • No one is ever turned away due to lack of funds. If cost feels like a barrier, please reach out. We’ll work it out together.

Amos Marsters

Amos Marsters is an artist and art teacher with over ten years of experience across painting, drawing, ceramics and storytelling. Their approach is playful, intuitive and rooted in the belief that every child is already an artist. Amos encourages kids to experiment, make a mess, follow their imagination and trust their own creative instincts, because there’s no single “right” way to make art.
